IISNO Canada Was Host to Kenyan Study Tour
The International Institute on Special Needs Offenders and Policy Research (Canada) was host to a study tour of senior government representatives of the Kenya Probation Service and the Ministry of Home Affairs [Image 1 | Image 2] Sept. 26 – Oct. 8, 2009.
During their time in Canada the Kenyan delegates toured provincial and federal correctional institutions — including the St. Lawrence Valley Correctional Centre in Brockville, Ont. — visited youth and community programs and met with judges and senior government officials. The study tour enabled the Kenyan delegation to benchmark offender treatment/rehabilitation services and offender management systems, including the management of special needs offenders.
This visit was related to a planned international conference that will take place in Kenya in 2011, that will be hosted by the Kenyan Probation and Aftercare Service with support provided by The International Institute on Special Needs Offenders and Policy Research (Canada) and The International Institute on Special Needs Offenders (UK).

The International Institute on Special Needs Offenders and Policy Research (Canada) maintains its goals and objectives of meeting the needs of governmental and non-governmental organizations, service providers and service users on behalf of those who are mentally ill and/or developmentally disabled persons or persons with special needs who are in conflict with the law.
We look forward to sharing ideas, information and resources with you as we work to ensure both short- and long-term personal and public safety and security by promotion of a variety of improved systems and services for adult and adolescent offenders with special needs.
